Aviation Flight

Grade 12 Only

Blue River Career Programs (BRCP) and Vincennes University’s Aviation Technology Center (VUATC) have developed a unique partnership to offer the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) Primary Ground School. This course is designed for high school 12th grade students only and can be taught at BRCP, depending on enrollment, or at one of the approved high schools in the Indianapolis area. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have completed the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Written Examination and will be prepared to begin flying lessons at any local airport.

Vincennes University Course Descriptions:

AFLT 100 Primary Ground School 5 credit hours Covers navigation, meteorology, radio, communications, and Federal Air Regulations. This course will prepare you for successful completion of the Federal Aviation Agency written examination.

AFLT 110 Ground Instruction on Flight Maneuvers 2 credit hours
Covers theory of aerodynamics, aircraft performance specification, weight and balance, and the Airman’s Information Manual. Gives explanation of theory and proper execution of ground and flight maneuvers that are requires for primary flight.

AFLT 160 Powerplant Lecture 2 credit hours
After completing the AFLT 160, students will understand different types of aircraft engines, accessories, and propellers. Fuel and lubricants are covered as they pertain to proper use by pilots.Student Certifications Students are required to complete all flight training in a FAA approved flight school. Each of the several flight certifications have a specific number of combined hours of class instruction and flight time. Completers of this program will have an FAA approved ticket that is transferable to post-secondary education or private flight providers. All aspects of this program are monitored and controlled by the Federal Aviation Administration.
